Is Sharmeen Obaid Protecting Her Sister OR Harrasing Pakistan??

A few days back while scrolling my twitter, I saw Sharmeen Obaid’s tweet regarding the harassment case of her sister happened at AKU emergency. Sharmeen Obaid’s sister went to emergency of AKU where a doctor tried to take her personal information and wanted to be friend with her on Facebook.
This is how Chinoy responded to this situation on her Twitter account:

After reading her tweet, I thought to pen down my thoughts about this story. As every picture has two sides so two different thoughts has been discussed here:
  • ·         Patriotic/Nationalist Approach:

First side of the story suggests that our country is not renowned for any good already. So why are we portraying its darker image across the globe? This issue could be resolved personally. If her sister was harassed in the hospital, she should file a suit against that doctor/hospital or could handle it personally. This Twitter post will not bring the assailant to justice. Moreover, such posts on social media do nothing but undermine the image of our county.

I wonder if it had been Dr. Asfi or Dr. Doug Ross and this would have been there cute first meeting, how the story would go. Can’t her sister simply cancel it? Or speak to the hospital? If that doctor also sent a cheesy message, then you should have raised your voice against it. Otherwise there’s no need to disregard that poor guy on simply a friend request. Such social media hotch potch will only result in ruining his career but also the image of our beloved homeland.

Dear Sharmeen,
I guess this country gave you subjects of documentaries. This country supported you and your parents to complete your double masters in America. Being such an eminent personality of Pakistan whose tweets are read globally and voice is heard around the world, why don’t you use the light of your fame and power to promote the land who gave the opportunity to win ‘Oscars’?  Rather than labeling the entire nation as “Zero Boundaries” on the act of a single person. All we can expect is, an ‘Apology’ from you.
  • ·         Say ‘No’ to Harrasment:

Sirf ek awaz hee tu mari thi, sirf ek thappar hee tu lagaya tha, sirf ek seeti hee tu bajai thi, sirf add hee tu kia tha?

We can go on and on to defend men. By demanding women, to stop raising voice against men, otherwise these women would be labelled as ‘Badnaam’ in the society; we are equally involved in harassing a woman.

It is also a security concern, when one gives the confidentials to any institution especially hospitals, one never expects to get random messages or calls or any interaction on social media in return, specifically from that organizations’ personnel.

The second we start sugar coating the flaws of our country is the day when we don’t take these flaws big enough to be corrected. If you own your country, then own the flaws too, in order to get rid of the nuisance.
This ‘for the sake of Honour’ mindset we apply to our families and daughters let major issues be brushed under the carpet.

Unless we get rid of this absurd behaviour of shielding the honour of our country at the cost of admitting that yes these specific glitches are particularly extensive in our country and need to be talked about soon, we will be unable to bring any transformation in our country.

Don’t allow nationalism and patriotism lead your own destruction.
You don’t like Pakistani image? Then do your part honestly. Denying or hiding the facts won’t really help. Positive aspects of any nation should be highlighted but negatives should also not be ignored or swept under the carpet. We cannot move forward without rectifying such problems.
We are looking forward to your opinions on this story.
