CHILD MARRIAGES IN OUR VILLAGES, INSIGHT :
Child marriage in reality refers to as an unlawful and illegal practice in which boys and girls are married, rather forced to married before they reach a minimum legal age of adulthood. Globally, underage marriage is considered and seen as a criminal practice as well as a human rights violation. On the other hand, Federal Child Marriage Restraint Act 1929 and Punjab Child Marriage in Pakistan Restraint (Amendment) Act 2015 which age of marriage for girls at 16 and boys at 18. These both laws make underage marriage a punishable of act. Unfortunately, these present laws haven’t brought any noticeable decline in early marriage cases. Since these amendments have been made enforced, there has been little action seen against child marriages in the Pakistan.
This is the reason that child marriage cannot be stopped in Pakistan. Specially, in underdeveloped and rural areas which is directly effecting the physical, mental, sexual condition of young girls in Pakistan. According the survey, one third girls of Pakistan are forced to marry before the age of 18 years. As compare to other countries in the world, Pakistan has the highest numbers of underage marriages.
Large number of girls are forced to marry due to their local cultural trends. This is the ultimate fact that the underage marriage deprives girls from their basic childhood rights of education, health, mental easiness. Early marriages made the girls to face domestic violence, pregnancy issues and mental issues.
In Pakistan child marriage is the main reason behind the infant mortality. It is also the main reason of death of young girls during pregnancy.
This criminal act is not deeply resolved in Pakistan. We should take steps to stop underage child marriages in Pakistan.
As Shariah Council Pakistan declares child marriage laws of Pakistan as not so Islamic which is further making the efforts to stop under age child marriages in Pakistan. The government of Pakistan should make efforts to make efforts to decrease this gap between the constitution of Pakistan and Islamic Shariah Court by arranging deep discussion sessions and researches by inviting prominent Islamic scholars of every school of thought and prominent civil law makers of Pakistan. This step will definitely help in decreasing the underage child marriages in Pakistan. Both the parties, the prominent Islamic scholars of every school of thought and prominent civil law makers should have to come to a point to settle this major issue for the sake of millions of underage girls in Pakistan.
